ITUC’s key mission is to defend and promote workers’ rights and interests worldwide. Its major fields of action are the following: trade union and human rights, economics, society and working environment, equality and non discrimination, and international solidarity.
Within the framework of its mission in Arab and Middle Eastern countries, ITUC has supported many actions undertaken by trade union organisations crying out against severe and widespread trade union right violations which have been taking place in the context of rapid mutation of the regional economies that penalize workers’ interests and fundamental rights in the region.
The objective of the observatory is to contribute to enlarge the public awareness of anti-trade union practices in order to strengthen national, regional, and international mobilization, for a better protection of human and trade union rights in the region. How?
By alerting he regional media and providing quick and relevant information covering trade union rights violations occurring in the region, and by providing regular information to trade union organizations, others organisations defending social and human rights, research centers, as well as ILO and other UN bodies entrusted the enforcement of international standards. The observatory is set up with the solidarity contributions of a number of solidarity support organizations: LO NORWAY,SASK FINLAND,AECID SPAIN,IFJ,EI,ITF.
